Area Agencies on
Aging including the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging for the St. Louis
Metropolitan area
An
Area Agency on Aging is a public or private non-profit agency,
designated by the state to address the needs and concerns of all older
adults at the local level. An Area Agency on Aging is a generic term.
These agencies can provide information on services in their locale, as
well as other specific activities related
to their state. In general,
all Area Agencies provide three primary services for those Americans
age 60 and over:
(1) Advocate for all older Americans within their
service area.
(2)
Identify the needs of the elderly in their areas and create multi-year
plans for the development of comprehensive, community-based services
to meet those needs.
(3)
Administer Older
Americans Act funds and other funds to implement the plan.
