Participating in Research to Assist the Elderly in St. Louis, MO
 I would like to offer
my sincere appreciation to the following facilities in the St. Louis,
MO metropolitan area that have agreed
to participate in "cutting edge' research to assist the elderly. This
research is considering the impact of residents' sense of control or
lack thereof, in personal decision-making in their life and how this
perception may impact on the initial development or exacerbation of an
existing level of depression. Depression among the elderly can have a
devastating effect on elderly individual's quality-of-life,
exacerbation of existing medical illnesses and phenomenally increases
levels of mortality of individuals living in long-term care
facilities. It is critical that we increase our understanding of
the various factors associated with the development of depression in
nursing homes and other long-term care facilities to improve the
quality of life and give our elderly loved ones the best
quality-of-life possible. This important research has a relatively
high probability of the results being reported in various psychology
and psychiatric-related scientific research journals. These facilities
have agreed to participate in research to aid in an increased
understanding of this phenomenon of depression in long-term care
facilities, and the appreciation of this researcher cannot in any way
be overstated.
