Special concerns about this high blood pressure medication:

If you have ever had severe congestive heart failure in the past you should use this high blood pressure medication with caution.  It should never be stopped suddenly as this may cause an increase in chest pain and risk of heart attack.  Your dosage of Sectral should be gradually reduced.  If you suffer from asthma, seasonal allergies or other bronchial conditions, coronary artery disease, or kidney or liver disease, this high blood pressure medication should be used with caution.

You should ask your physician if you need to check your pulse while taking Sectral as this high blood pressure medication can cause your heartbeat to become too slow.  This medication may also mask the symptoms of low blood sugar or altered blood sugar levels.  Obviously, if you're diabetic you need to discuss this medication for high blood pressure with your physician.  Notify your doctor or dentist if you have a medical emergency or before you have any surgeries.  Also, you should tell your doctor if you are taking any over-the-counter medications and nasal drops as they may negatively interact with Sectral.

If you experience difficulty breathing or develop hives or large areas of swelling, you should seek medical attention immediately. You may be having a serious allergic reaction to this high blood pressure medication.  Sectral can also make other severe allergies even worse.

Are there other possible food and drug interactions when taking this high blood pressure medication?

If Sectral is taken with certain other drugs the effects of either could be increased, decreased or otherwise altered.  It is also important to check with your doctor prior to taking Sectral with any of the following medications:
