change in intensity you should notify your doctor immediately. Only
your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue taking this high
blood pressure medication if Sectral side effects begin to occur.
Sectral side effects may include:
Abnormal vision, chest pain, constipation, cough, decreased sexual
ability, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, frequent urination,
gas, headache, indigestion, joint pain, nasal inflammation, nausea,
shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, strange dreams, swelling
due to fluid retention, trouble sleeping, weakness
Special concerns about this high blood pressure medication:
If you have ever had severe congestive heart failure in the past you
should use this high blood pressure medication with caution. It
should never be stopped suddenly as this may cause an increase in
chest pain and risk of heart attack. Your dosage of Sectral should be
gradually reduced. If you suffer from asthma, seasonal allergies or
other bronchial conditions, coronary artery disease, or kidney or
liver disease, this high blood pressure medication should be used with
caution.
You should ask your physician if you need to check your pulse while
taking Sectral as this high blood pressure medication can cause your
heartbeat to become too slow. This medication may also mask the
symptoms of low blood sugar or altered blood sugar levels. Obviously,
if you're diabetic you need to discuss this medication for high blood
pressure with your physician. Notify your doctor or dentist if you
have a medical emergency or before you have any surgeries. Also, you
should tell your doctor if you are taking any over-the-counter
medications and nasal drops as they may negatively interact with
Sectral.
If you experience difficulty breathing or develop hives or large areas
of swelling, you should seek medical attention immediately. You may be
having a serious allergic reaction to this high blood pressure
medication. Sectral can also make other severe allergies even worse.
Are there other possible food and drug interactions when taking this
high blood pressure medication?
If Sectral is taken with certain other drugs the effects of either
could be increased, decreased or otherwise altered. It is also
important to check with your doctor prior to taking Sectral with any
of the following medications:

Certain other blood pressure medication such as Reserpine (Diupres)

Some over-the-counter cold remedies and nasal drops such as
Neo-Synephrine, Afrin and Sudafed

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Motrin and Voltaren

Diabetes drugs such as Micronase
Special concerns if you're pregnant or breast-feeding:
The effects of this high blood pressure medication during pregnancy
has not been adequately studied, so, if your pregnant or plan to
become pregnant in the near future, you should inform your doctor
immediately. Sectral appears in breast milk and could have an affect
on the nursing infant. If this medication is essential to your
health, your doctor may ask you to discontinue breast-feeding until
your treatment with this high blood pressure medications is finished.
